Background: Premature ovarian ageing is a serious problem in reproduction, as menopause occurs at less than 40 years of age. It carries heavy implications for fertility, hormonal stability, as well as late life consequences. Even though it is quite significant, there is minimal information from Pakistan, particularly from the city of Peshawar, regarding prevalence and pertinent demographic variables. Objective: To determine the frequency of premature ovarian ageing in patients presenting to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Duration and Place of Study: This study was conducted from 1st August 2021 to 1st February 2022 in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. Methodology: A total of 145 women aged 18–40 years were recruited using non-probability consecutive sampling. Women with menopause induced by surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy were excluded. After obtaining informed consent, demographic data including age, marital status, and parity were collected. Menopause was defined according to the World Health Organization as the absence of spontaneous menstruation for more than 12 months without other identifiable causes, while premature ovarian ageing was considered when menopause occurred before 40 years of age. Results: The mean age of participants was 34.74±3.30 years, with a mean parity of 5.02±0.81. Among them, 11% were unmarried and 89% were married. Premature ovarian ageing was observed in 9 patients (6.2%). No statistically significant association was found between premature ovarian ageing and age group, marital status, or parity (p>0.05). Conclusion: The frequency of premature ovarian ageing was 6.2% in this population. No significant relationship was observed with age, marital status, or parity, highlighting the need for further large-scale studies.
